Project for the Fall 2006 class
You have a choice. You can either produce:
A WORKSHOP ABOUT HOW TO USE A SPECIFIC VISUALIZATION,
PROGRAM, OR COLLECTION or
AN INQUIRY-BASED LESSON FOR STUDENTS USING A SPECIFIC VISUALIZATION, PROGRAM, OR
COLLECTION
YOUR ASSIGNMENT:
Produce a presenter's and participants' guide for the workshop OR
produce a teacher's and student's guide for the lesson.
- Choose visualization around which to plan your workshop or your lesson .
- This can be a program like rasmole, chime, j-mol, ISIS, echem, chemsense. In this case,
you are probably talking about a workshop for other teachers. Your
participant's guide will have more on
introductory activities (how to use the program)
and less on inquiry use in the classroom. You could decide to
use one of these programs with a class and produce and inquiry-based
lesson.
- Your choice can be a specific visualization (one
of your chemsense quicktime movies, one animation or a set from the HIVE or any
internet site. In this case, you are probably thinking about your participants
guide will have more on inquiry use in the
classroom and a small section on any introductory
activities needed to learn the components of the
visualization.
- Your choice could be a video tape or a CD.
- If you cannot find one of these that fits your
class, see me for other options.
- If you are writing an inquiry-based lesson, choose the chemistry concept
for your lesson. This is the statement that you want a 'good' student
to say about the lesson. (for example: don't give me density, instead
you want students to be able to declare something like: Density is the
ratio of mass and volume.
- Prepare a first draft of the components listed below and turn this in
- Edit based on the feedback
- If possible, try out your lesson or workshop with a few students or
other teachers.
- Edit based on the feedback
- Final draft of your professional workshop OR inquiry-lesson
