How do I calculate my
midterm grade?
Add your exam 1(100 pt
max)___________
And add your 6 lecture quizzes (1-6 with no dropping for midterm; 24 pt max) ____________
Finally, add your homework #1 and #2 (20pt max ) _________
This equals 144 pts maximum.
Keeping with the normal 10% cutoffs,
you will need the following number of points for each grade:
A =129 pts, B = 115 pts, C = 100 pts, D = 86 pts.
While I do sometimes lower cutoffs to take care of those 1 or so questions from a cutoff, I don't publish these lower cutoffs (now a new set of you are 1-2 questions away). Also the amount final grade cutoffs are lowered may be GREATLY different from the amount lowered at Midterm. Your Midterm letter grade (after cutoff adjustment) will be posted on OWL.
NOTE: As I said in class, this is NOT midway of your points. (You have taken 2 more quizzes and done 1 more homework as of 10/13). Midterm grades are only important to significant others, your honors advisor, or your advisor if you are on probation. If you need a memo to be allowed to enroll for spring, let me know and I can provide one later. Remember at the end, you will replace the lowest exam with the average of the other three, you will only count the best 9 quizzes, and will have clicker points entered in (70% of the clicker points, gets 14 course points).
